My son peed in the potty!

Fisher-Price Precious Planet Froggy Potty
The first step. I have been both dreading and looking forward to this day. I can't believe it happened like it did.
I was using the bathroom and the boy, of course, couldn't let me use it in peace. He insisted that I let him in. So I did. When he got in he found his potty that we just bought him, in the bathtub(don't ask). He had me set it up for him and asked me to remove his diaper. He sat down and looked at himself and said there is no pee. I said sometimes you need to wait a little while. And sure enough a few seconds later he peed. We of course did a happy dance and cheered and clapped.

He hasn't attempted since then. Our plan is to try the 3 day method sometime in August. I have heard good things about it and a few different versions of the method. We will see how it goes and if it clicks. Hopefully we'll have one out of diapers before our daughter is born.

We'll see how it goes.

My son's obsession

Ever since my son recognized I have ears he has insisted on grabbing them.

He mainly does it when we are laying down together.

He does it to his mom as well, but more so with me. Must be something about my ears. And he often times needs to touch both at least once before I can put him to bed or get up to leave. He'll touch one and then say, "other ear." Until I let him touch it as well.

He touches his own ears...we used to think it was a sign that he had an ear infection, which they say is common. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe that's how it started out. He certainly had a lot of ear infections when he was younger. He had 4-6 over a six month period depending on whether you count double ear infections as 1 or 2. He almost got tubes put in. Not sure if that would have been a good thing.

He does this thing where he likes to put his ear under water while bathing as well, who knows if it's related. Does anyone else have weird traits or characteristics their children possess?

The torture of the arboretum

My partner in parenting and I both got off work a little early due to the holiday. We went to the arboretum this evening because it was family night. Of course the boy was emphatically opposed to even the thought of going. He has no idea what it even is.
Me: "We're going to the Arboretum."
Boy: "I don't want to go to the arboreruam"
PIP: "It's a park"
Boy: "I don't want to go to the park!"
Better half: "This is going to be really fun."
Boy: "I don't want to have fun, I just want to play trains."

So of course we force him into his car seat. And take him anyway.
Before we even leave the driveway.

Boy:"It's too far"

Uh huh. Is this all two year old or just ours?

It really is a great place to take the kid. It has water features, slides, bridges, tunnels. Everything little kids could ask for. Since it was family night there was a performer doing kids songs and was very interactive. I could have done without the bugs, but hey, there are worse things in life.

He, of course, had the time of his life and didn't want to leave. He would not ride in the stroller. He wanted his mom to carry him. She's 7 months pregnant.

Me: "Do you want to walk or ride in the stroller?"
Boy:"I just want mom to carry me." - instant tantrum
Me and PIP: "You need to walk or ride in the stroller." "Please stop crying."

Eventually we were closer to the parking lot and he was OK with me carrying him.

When we got to the car -

Boy: "I did not have fun!"

Sitting on the floor waiting for the sandman.

I'm posting from my son's room. It's 11pm. He has woken up, again, because he has a cough. I've been in here four times now.

Every time I leave, he seems fine, I go lie down, only to hear the muffled cries from the monitor and down the hall.

"Daddy"
"Dada"

I sometimes wonder why we have the monitor when we can hear him down the hall.

I go back in.

"I just want to sleep in mommy and daddy's room"

"No"

"Sit down dada"

Here I sit.

Has anyone else been here before?

I sometimes say, "I'm going to close your door unless you stop crying." I know it is an empty threat. He doesn't. And sometimes it works.

I think he's asleep. I know my leg is. Time to army crawl or roll on outta here.

Good night internet. May you get more sleep than me tonight.

Changing formats

I have been toying with the idea of getting back into the blogging game. This is as good of an opportunity as any. I never thought I had much to say or talk about. But, I can certainly talk about the adventure's I've already had in parenting. And I'm sure they will continue. That will be the direction I take my adventures from now on. I'm not sure if I will adjust the name or format of this blog, but I have decided that Daxton and his soon to be sister are far more entertaining than I am.

More to come!

Let's give this another try

So I have decided to give this another shot. It has been a long time since I have posted anything because....well...I'm lazy. Anyway. Back at it. A lot has happened since my last post for sure....maybe I need to review my last post just to get everything up to date. Looking forward. In short. Moved to Maine, got engaged, moved to Chicago, got married, started a new job at Northwestern....more to come. I may start talking a little more about my career and happenings in theatre as that may have more interesting topics. Anyway...

New Life in Maine

Well, It has been more than a week since I 've moved to Maine and I've already done so much. I ended up painting our living room and bedroom in order to make it more ours. I had fresh lobster for the first time...Maine lobster.

You know how you see the advertising for Maine lobster...well I got it in Maine. I was excited. I had to cook it of course because someone didn't want to put them in the pot. And then I made a Lobster Bisque afterwords with the broth left over.

This last weekend we went to Acadia National Park and camped at Blackwoods Campground. Apparently it is supposed to be difficult to get a site there. My wonderful gf managed to get a night and then we got in line the next day and got another.

While we were there we hiked Cadillac Mt. It is the largest mountain on the East Coast. We ended up doing the 4.2 Mile Hike our options we driving up, 1 Mile, 4.2 and 7.7 Mile. We figured the 4.4 would be good.

That same day we went to Sand Beach. the water was supposedly 55 degrees. It was chilly. But after hiking most of the day it was a good change of pace and very refreshing.
Later in the day we went to Thunder Hole. According to sources when the waves come crashing in it makes a thunderous sound. We're pretty sure it is broken. Maybe another time. We took a picture anyways.
The next day we hiked up Bubble Mountain and checked out Bubble rock. Later that day we saw a lighthouse and ate at a lobster pound.
The lighthouse was pretty small and the lobster pound was good but expensive of course. We headed home after that to recover, sunburns and all.

It was a great trip and I highly recommend it to anyone. This is a bikers paradise by the way. I wish we both had bikes. We saw them all over the place. And there were many trails available. Maybe next time.
